CMS released the fiscal year (FY) 2027 Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) final rule last week, outlining upcoming changes to Medicare payment rates and policies for inpatient services.
It is no longer enough to confirm that a diagnosis is documented somewhere in the record. The documentation must also clearly demonstrate the clinical severity of the patient’s illness.
