Q: How should hospitals handle the timing of inpatient orders for inpatient-only procedures?
A: A simple rule is that a planned inpatient-only procedure should always trigger an inpatient admission order prior to the performance of the procedure, regardless of how long the patient is expected to be at the hospital.
