CMS: Readmission Rates Drop Across the U.S.

New CMS data revealed that efforts associated with the Affordable Care Act and Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program that 49 states and the District of Columbia have seen a drop in readmission rates.

Since 2010, all but one state plus the District of Columbia saw a reduction in Medicare 30-day readmissions. Readmission rates have declined by more than 10% in 11 states and by more than 5% in 43 states. Nationally, from 2010 to 2015 Medicare readmission rates have decreased by 8%, according to the CMS blog.  

CMS revealed that approximately 100,000 readmissions were avoided in 2015 and approximately 565,000 readmissions have been avoided since 2010.
