2019 ICD-10-CM update includes new codes for mental disorders
The (FY) 2019 ICD-10-CM code update includes new codes for cannabis dependence and withdrawal, depression and psychosis following childbirth, and factitious disorder. All 2019 ICD-10-CM changes take effect October 1.
Several updates were made to Chapter 5 for the reporting of mental, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental disorders. For example, the following codes were added for cannabis dependence and withdrawal:
- F12.23, cannabis dependence with withdrawal
- F12.93, cannabis use with withdrawal
Additional codes were added to distinguish postpartum depression from puerperal psychosis. Code F53, which is currently used to report a diagnosis of either postpartum depression and/or puerperal psychosis, was replaced with codes F53.0 for postpartum depression and F53.1 for puerperal psychosis.
The update also includes the addition of code F68.A to specify factitious disorder imposed on another. Unlike codes F68.10-F68.13, which describe manifestations of factitious disorder imposed on the self, F68.A specifies factitious disorder imposed on another person.
