Q&A: Devices retaining pass-through status
Q: Has CMS left any devices left with pass-through status for 2017?
A: Yes, three devices will continue with pass-through status for 2017:
- C1822, generator, neurostimulator (implantable), high frequency, with rechargeable battery and charging system
- C2623, catheter, transluminal angioplasty, drug-coated, non-laser
- C2613, lung biopsy plug with delivery system
The device offset regarding APC payment continues when these devices are reported with the procedure. Because there is a device packaged into the APC payment, when a device is reimbursed separately, CMS subtracts the portion of the APC payment related to the device. So the provider will be reimbursed for the procedure (minus device portion) and the pass-through device.
